I went out and gleaned objects that remind me of pain - a logic that united all the items. These objects were: knife, Bible, needles, blood (represented by the red fabric), athletic tape, band-aid, alcohol, thorn and glass shards. After spending a certain amount of time, I discovered another logic that also brought them together - objects that seem negative at first, but have more purpose than first impression. I then had to arrange these objects that best represented the second concept.
I then chose a cross section that represented the concept the most.
The next phase was then to position another cross section through the objects and render whatever that was in between. This drawing was as if it was an elevation of the assemblance. The first cross section was drawn in red to make a clear distinction between the rendering and the section cut.
The last phase of the process was to zoom in on the most appropriate section that represented the concept of 'bad but great' and establish a space by inserting a figure in the rendering. The figure is then exemplified and rendered as if the section was a realistic space to radiate the concept.
