A compilation of all three images in this collection
This is the final project I designed for ART-130 at BYUi. Here are the details:
ARTIST POSTER: Design three different posters for an upcoming exhibit on Charles and Ray Eames.
POSTER ONE - COLLAGE: Use only images of the works of the Eames' to build your image for this poster.
POSTER 2 - TYPOGRAPHY: Use only typography to design this poster.
POSTER 3 - PHOTOGRAPHY: Use only photographs you take to create the image for this poster.
College Poster: Probably the most icon thing that Charles and Ray created, The Eames lounge chair is great chairs made of all time. It is beautiful, ergonomic and one of the most comfortable things to sit in. It was designed to fit like a well worn baseball glove, and still commands a high price.
This design replaces the luxurious leather with fabrics designed (or inspired) by Charles and Ray Eames. The fine wood with stylized to also have a cool 1950’s vibe. The poster is made to have a strong central image and avoid all other distractions.
Typography Poster: This poster is an all typography poster to harken to a simple Eames chair. The last name is laid out to be the body of the chair, with the names of Charles and Ray acting as the legs.
The symbolic meaning of this, is that all work that was designed by the Eames was an equal collaboration of both Charles and Ray. While Charles was often the public face of the duo, he is known for saying he couldn’t do what he did without his wife and partner in design, Ray.
Photography Poster: This poster conveys the luxury of owning an Eames Chair. While this image could have been created in Photoshop, instead it was designed to use practical methods, the same way Charles and Ray may have shot an image like this.
The poster is designed to anamorphicly skew the perception that Charles is sitting on an chair, on a second chair. The image confuses the mind with what is real and what is projection. Regardless of which you focus on, there is a sense of comfort that is conveyed about enjoying a fine piece of Eames furniture.
