The CITY street bench is made of pre-cast textured granite grey concrete. Designed to be both installed as a standalone product or in groups. The possible seating combination is made for outdoor public seating and the items can be oriented in several different directions. This bench can be used with straight benches to create social areas or with other curved units for circular arrangements. The CITY is a freestanding bench because of its weight and will not need any fixing down. Can be placed directly onto finished surfaces, after any complex paving or surfacing has been completed.
Material Specifications
For the general construction of the bench we suggest pre-cast polished concrete, which is a cost-effective, weatherproof and timeless material.
For the basic substance of concrete we suggest 43 Grade Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) type 5 which is suitable for all general concrete construction or (PFC) which is ultra-high-strength concrete whose properties can be further enhanced by incorporating steel fibers.
For the mould, we recommend using a melamine board or shuttering waterproof plywood with a smooth surface. The cutout needs to be made with a circular saw. When everything fits correctly the whole structure needs to be screwed together. Before mixing the concrete and filling the mould, it is necessary to strengthen the internal structure with a rebar 10 mm thick or less.
The proposed wood for the seating surface is Teak hardwood or as a substitution Philippine Meranti wood (known as “Philippine Mahogany”). We recommend avoidance of coating teak wood surface with any type of stain, varnish or paint. Not only do these hide the natural texture of teak, but the water eventually penetrates the coating, causing flaking, peeling or cracking.
