DESIGN INTENSIVE (SOLAR BUDDY)
The Problem?
Active Buddy has set to partner up with Solar Buddy; delivering a source of equipment that will enable indigenous communities to participate in activities beyond daylight hours (energy poverty).
The Resolved Idea/ How it Works?
Active Buddy is made from recycled aluminium. It can be used as a light source, goal frame, field markers, or disco dance floor. It consists of LED natural light that is powered through solar energy on the outer shell of the cone structure. When fully charged from the sun, each cone has the ability to aluminate light for up to 8 hours. The cones contain a feature that enables them to stack upon each other, creating that goal frame appearance.
What Impact does it have?
In the event of getting communities to use the equipment that Active buddy has proposed, it will encourage families out of their homes, resulting in less power usage per household, reserving their available energy for more beneficial use. This is not necessarily a fix to energy poverty but a solution in minimising it. Active buddy is just the beginning in helping to solve energy poverty within remote areas. Our future applications will include spreading our product across all rural areas of Australia to tackle this wicked problem.
