Winter

Winter is the final part of the four seasons cycle, the Master's Thesis at School of Design. The Winter table was developed from one of the models for the project.
In cooperation with carpenter Darko Franjić, I've used bog oak, fossilized wood extracted from the riverbed of Sava from Krapina to Drina.
The radioactive carbon isotope dating has shown oak sample exceeding 8290 ± 50 years of age, from Krapina river. Wood for this particular table is 5890 ± 115 years old.
The river, whose floods and course changes destroyed the tree, has also preserved it for thousands of years. Wood properties of bog oak include external disintegration and internal hardness, with the dark color as a result of chemical reaction of tannin and water.
In addition to the exceptional quality and aesthetic appeal, this wood has an important role in scientific insight into climate changes since the last ice age.
