Belladonna
This project was my senior capstone. I spent 4 months developing it. It's meant to be a coffee shop that would sell its own coffee and cold brew as well as the art of local artists. The whole shop is inspired around the culture of bohemianism. All of the serving-ware would be made by local ceramicists, so I made all of the mugs myself in a ceramics class.
The Presentation
This is my space in the art gallery that showcases all of the pieces I made for this project. Mugs, t-shirts, paper cups, bottles of cold brew, bags of coffee beans, jars of coffee grounds, menus, a website, an app, and a mail-out brochure.
The Logo
This logo was hand-lettered by myself and recreated in Illustrator. It's heavily inspired by Art Deco as many art deco artists practiced a bohemian lifestyle. The Art Deco style is also carried throughout the branding and packaging in the framing of certain pieces.
The Packaging
The packaging is all inspired by tarot cards. The intensity of the card changes depending on the intensity of the brew, as does the value of the key color used. Each card is framed in an art deco style, but the key illustration is done in a gestural style. The larger cold brew bottles were slip-casted and sealed with wax. Each piece of packaging has a tag printed with the logo with the price hand-written on it.
The Menu
The menu is held within a laser-etched wood cover with tabs for easy access. Each item is named after a famous person from history that I believed to personify the bohemian ideology. Frida Kahlo, Freddie Mercury, Stevie Nicks, etc. People who march to the beat of their own drum.
The Mail-Out
The Mail-Out was one of my favorite things to do for this project. It incorporates my own photography of a local coffee shop, the illustrations I created for the projects, and historical images of Bohemian people.
The Collateral
The collateral for this project really gave the opportunity to experiment and use everything I've ever learned about art. From throwing, glazing, and firing all of the mug myself, to staining the laser-etched covers of my menus, to screen printing my own t-shirts. I even had tags, bags, and cups with my logo on them.
