Doppia anima del progetto ☛ One project, two ways

Il progetto “The TU printing box + workshop” è concepito come doppia proposta complementare di corso in scatola da svolgere in completa autonomia grazie alla disponibilità di tutti gli strumenti e le indicazioni per esplorare la stampa in rilievo. Insieme a questa prima opzione è stata offerta la possibilità di seguire un laboratorio individuale in presenza ospitato negli spazi di Tipografia Unione a Vicenza. Entrambi i momenti sono frutto della collaborazione tra Federico Blu di Prussia e Unione Collector, luogo dal Dna creativo di Tipografia Unione, che hanno mantenuto un filo conduttore tra i due momenti nella scelta della cromìa, delle illustrazioni e della comunicazione del duplice intento di presentare questo aspetto della stampa nella sua complessità e completezza. Si vuole assecondare in queste due modalità le esigenze di ciascuno voglia incontrare o approfondire l’ampio mondo del Linocut.

The project “The TU printing box + workshop” is conceived as a double complementary proposal of a boxed course to be carried out in complete autonomy thanks to the availability of all the tools and indications for exploring relief print. Together with this first option, the possibility was offered to follow an individual workshop in presence hosted in the spaces of Tipografia Unione in Vicenza. Both moments are the result of the collaboration between Federico Blu di Prussia and Unione Collector, place with a creative DNA within Tipografia Unione, who have maintained a common thread between the two moments in the choice of colours, illustrations and communication of the dual intent of presenting this aspect of the print in its complexity and completeness. We want to satisfy the needs of everyone who wants to meet or deepen the wide world of Linocut in these two ways.

Tipografia Unione è un’azienda storica di Vicenza specializzata nella stampa offset e digitale, con una particolare specializzazione nella realizzazione di progetti di packaging. Fondata nel 1960, oggi Tipografia Unione è un’azienda tutta al femminile sotto la guida di Fiorella Bertoldo e della figlia Giulia Manea.

L’aspetto che contraddistingue questa realtà è il connubio di tradizione, conoscenza dei materiali e lavorazioni artigianali con la ricerca sulle nuove tecnologiche di stampa (carte, inchiostri, macchinari, e non solo); il tutto con uno sguardo attento alle carte ecologiche e riciclabili di nuova generazione. In sessant’anni di attività, Tipografia Unione ha sempre saputo rinnovarsi senza mai dimenticare però il passato, come dimostrano i macchinari storici disseminati tra gli ambienti di lavoro.

Una storia così lunga non può che dare vita a tanti incontri e collaborazioni, e molti sono stati i progetti realizzati con eccellenze da tutta Italia.

Tipografia Unione is a historic company from Vicenza focused on offset and digital printing, with a particular specialization in the creation of packaging projects. Founded in 1960, today Tipografia Unione is an all-female company under the guidance of Fiorella Bertoldo and her daughter Giulia Manea.
The aspect that distinguishes this reality is the combination of tradition, knowledge of materials and craftsmanship with research on new printing technologies (papers, inks, machinery, and more); all with a careful look at the new generation ecological and recyclable papers. In sixty years of activity, Tipografia Unione has always been able to renew itself without ever forgetting the past, as evidenced by the historical machinery scattered among the work environments.
Such a long history can only give life to many meetings and collaborations, and many projects have been carried out with excellence from all over Italy.

Unione Collector è un luogo dal Dna creativo all’interno di Tipografia Unione.

Nasce nel 2015 per portare produzioni culturali, flussi creativi ed esperienze dinamiche per far incontrare idee e persone all’interno di uno spazio già intriso di storia e dedizione. È un progetto che si è evoluto in pochi anni assecondando nuovi desideri e possibilità.

Oggi Unione Collector si propone come una fucina di idee per creativi e giovani freelance. Un ambiente stimolante dove far nascere percorsi condivisi tra professionisti e creativi, un contenitore fisico e virtuale di workshop ed eventi dove raccogliere e raccontare differenti espressioni artistiche e uno spazio dove espandere progetti legati al mondo della tipografia e della carta.

Unione Collector is a place with a creative DNA within Tipografia Unione.
It was born in 2015 to bring cultural productions, creative flows and dynamic experiences to bring together ideas and people within a space already steeped in history and dedication. It is a project that has evolved in a few years, satisfying new desires and possibilities.Today Unione Collector proposes itself as a forge of ideas for creatives and young freelancers. A stimulating environment where shared paths between professionals and creatives are born, a physical and virtual container of workshops and events where to collect and tell different artistic expressions and a space where to expand projects related to the world of typography and paper.

Federico Blu di Prussia è la personificazione di un approccio interdisciplinare al panorama della stampa d’arte, che si focalizza sul linocut e sulla creazione di timbri in gomma. Cultore del fenomeno proprio del Rubber Stamping e delle contaminazioni che la stampa in piano e in rilievo apportano nel panorama grafico contemporaneo. Il progetto si occupa di workshop e laboratori dedicati alla linoleumgrafia e a collaborazioni rivolte a librerie indipendenti, gallerie d’arte e tipografie. Un riferimento fondamentale è la realtà internazionale di matrice anglosassone con attenzione per rassegne artistiche ed editoriali quali “People of Print” e “Pressing Matters”.

Federico Blu di Prussia is the personification of an interdisciplinary approach to the art printing technique, which focuses on Linocut and the creation of Rubber stamps. Graphic artist focused on the phenomenon of Rubber Stamping and of the contaminations that flat and relief printing bring to the contemporary graphic panorama. The project deals with workshops and laboratories dedicated to linocut and collaborations aimed at independent bookstores, art galleries and printers. A fundamental reference is the international reality of British and American scene with attention to artistic and editorial reviews such as "People of Print" and "Pressing Matters".

Il contenuto ☛ The content

All’interno della confezione è presente una selezione di elementi essenziali per approcciare la stampa in rilievo e il fenomeno del Rubber Stamping. Al corso è stata allegata una sgorbia Pfeil per intagliare matrici plastiche e lignee, blocchi di linoleum e gomma colorata Factis di 4x4 cm e 4x8 cm con relativi supporti per stampare a mano. Per l’inchiostrazione la scelta è ricaduta su un tampone colorato che non richiede l’impiego di rullo e inchiostro, ma che assolve con semplicità il medesimo procedimento.

Inside the package there is a selection of essential elements to approach relief and the phenomenon of Rubber Stamping. A Pfeil gouge for carving plastic and wooden matrices, blocks of linoleum and Factis colored rubber of 4x4 cm and 4x8 cm with relative supports for hand printing was attached to the course. For inking, the choice fell on a colored pad that does not require the use of a roller and ink, but which easily performs the same procedure.

Gli strumenti ☛ The tools

Per sviluppare il progetto “The TU printing box + workshop” la ricerca iniziale è partita dagli strumenti: utensili fondamentali nel lavoro di tutti i giorni e oggetti del laboratorio, ausili necessari insieme a colori vivaci e supporti impalpabili. Tutti questi elementi affollano il tavolo da lavoro così come lo spazio della Tipografia Unione che ha concretizzato questa introduzione duplice e complementare al fenomeno del Linocut.

To develop the project “The TU printing box + workshop” the initial research started with the tools: fundamental tools in everyday work and objects in the laboratory, necessary aids together with bright colors and impalpable supports. All these elements crowd the work table as well as the space of the Tipografia Unione which made this dual and complementary introduction to the Linocut phenomenon concrete.

Dispensa e bibliografia ☛ References in the box

Il corso raccolto nella confezione ospita una dispensa che funge da guida dell’intero progetto. Al suo interno sono descritte le attività proposte, i riferimenti al mondo contemporaneo della stampa e una bibliografia per ampliare le proprie conoscenze sull’argomento. Un percorso sviluppa la creazione di un timbro dall’ideazione fino all’impressione su carta, passo dopo passo. Ogni fase è commentata e arricchita da indicazioni utili, illustrazioni chiare ed esplicative. Un compendio di modelli grafici e disegni sintetici possono essere il punto di partenza per una personale interpretazione della tematica proposta.

The course collected in the package houses a pantry that acts as a guide for the entire project. It describes the proposed activities, references to the contemporary world of printing and a bibliography to expand one's knowledge on the subject. A path develops the creation of a stamp from its conception to its imprint on paper, step by step. Each phase is commented and enriched with useful information, clear and explanatory illustrations. A compendium of graphic models and synthetic drawings can be the starting point for a personal interpretation of the proposed theme.

La carta ☛ Paper selection

Per la realizzazione del packaging Tipografia Unione ha studiato il formato e le modalità più adatte per esprimere al meglio la sensibilità del progetto. Per la scatola di “The TU printing box + workshop” è stata impiegata la carta Fedrigoni Materica Clay 360 gr. L’intero processo di stampa e realizzazione delle confezioni è stato sviluppato nel laboratorio di Vicenza. La carta riveste un ruolo fondamentale anche per i fogli accuratamente selezionati per svolgere le stampe del corso e allegati agli strumenti nella scatola.

For the realization of the packaging Tipografia Unione studied the format and the most suitable methods to best express the sensitivity of the project. For the box of “The TU printing box + workshop” Fedrigoni Materica Clay 360 gr. paper was used. The entire printing and packaging process was developed in the Vicenza laboratory. The paper also plays a fundamental role for the sheets carefully selected to carry out the printouts of the course and attached to the tools in the box.

Campionamento caratteri ☛ Wood types print

All’interno della dispensa nella versione “The TU printing box” è presente una composizione realizzata con caratteri mobili in legno, tratti dall’archivio storico della Tipografia Unione. Per legare il progetto alla propria storia nel campo tipografico e alla decennale eredità è stata realizzata una stampa con gli ornamenti e le forme più suggestive per imprimere, con un tirabozze tratto dal laboratorio, un campionario utile ai partecipanti del corso. Punto di partenza per libere interpretazioni grafiche.

Inside the pantry in the "The TU printing box" version there is a composition made with wooden types, taken from the historical archive of the Tipografia Unione. To link the project to its history in the typographical activity and to the great legacy, a print was created with the most suggestive ornaments and shapes to print, with a etching press taken from the laboratory, a useful sample for the course participants. Starting point for free graphic interpretations.
