Brand Extension Package Design

1. Consider what the goal of your design is

What qualifies as “packaging”? - Materials constructed in a way to store and or present a product or good.
What are your options? - Physical packaging using various means of design printed on and crafted together,
What do you actually need to create? - A package that aesthetically and functionally holds the product.
What is brand extension? - an instance of using an established brand name or trademark on new products, so as to increase sales.
2. Know your product, demographic, and brand.
Product is cereal 
Design should not feel over he top in any way, very simple and industrial, sturdy strong colors and design. Design should have bold text and colors and not feel overwhelming.

3. Brainstorm ideas — Show your brainstorming as idea webs, clouds, lists, found imagery, small sketches of elements 

Brainstorm – form or shapes of packaging, box, vertically long
Brainstorm – materials used for, cardboard, whatever type is inside
Brainstorm – patterns and branding elements that could be used in design, orange lines, half orange half black, Duracell mascot

4. Begin sketching thumbnail design ideas/options for your packaging.



Design Brief

The product is a cereal box.

Target Audience- Cereal is eaten by everyone but often marketed towards children and parents of children. Fun and inviting while also keeping the clean Duracell look. The clean almost bland look makes the cereal seem healthier, targeting those who care.

Price Point: around $5, various based on size 

Product Size: 12 by 8 inches

Words of Association- Reliable, strong, classic

Materials to use-  Cardboard, cardboard is the go to cereal box material and I don't see a need to change it. Duracell also uses it.

7. Self-reflect on your design
Reflect on your successes and shortcoming. I felt I had success understanding the identity of the brand but failure in projecting that identity on a more than surface level onto the design in its totality.
How can it be improved? I feel the best way to improve my design would be to just experiment more and try newer and more bold choices, I felt I did not do enough experimenting and felt I could have done more to be truly unique
Refine or develop elements of the design that can be improved. I feel I can improve the cereal bowl making it feel more real. I could refine the cutting of some sections.
