The objective of this exercise was to begin considering the structure needed to support a human body. I was given 10 three foot lengths of scrap wood and 4 days to produce a stool exclusively with handtools. This exercise resulted in an increased understanding of structure, as well as an increased ability to hand cut joinery.
The resulting structure is a series of triangle that support each other connected with 22 lap joints. Lap joints were chosen because they are quick and yet leave a large amount of wood meat remaining in the joint.
