Mayon Volcano Up-Close

Mayon Volcano is known in the world for its perfect cone due to its symmetry.

According to Smithsonian Magazine, the frequency of Mayon's eruptions partly created its symmetrical form. When the volcano emits a spray of molten rock, it collects around its upper rim and these volcanic rocks "stack up, and up, and up" which resulted in a very steep slope.

While the upper slopes of Mayon is covered with ash and bared rocks; agoho, coconut plantations, grass lands and other plants surround the lower slopes of Mayon.

You can also see lahar deposits along the gullies on the lower slopes of the volcano. The lahar are formed by rainstorms during eruptions or by torrential rain.
