Observational Skull
This a observational piece of a deer skull, made using charcoal on drawing paper. This was one of the first close observational pieces that I have done using charcoal and the take away method. I started by covering the paper in charcoal, then using a kneaded eraser to sketch the outline of the skull as well as the table behind it, marking the edges and the antlers. After that I went in and added the highlights and values while comparing to the original skull to ensure my drawing was accurate to the figure. During this process I paid close attention to detail and constantly looked back and forth, drawing to figure, to make sure I was being accurate. I faced a dilemma when I had to draw the triangle shaped figure in the middle of the skull, inside was an intricate pattern that I attempted to capture. However I realized it would be distracting to include the pattern, and including the values inside the triangle, was a much better choice than attempting to draw the complex details.
