For this assignment I decided to recreate the cover of Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." I chose this novel because as a child I remember watching the live action adaptation and then immediately reading the book only to find myself even more entertained.
The inspiration for my cover came from the character The Queen of Hearts and the playing card subjects that she rules over. I used the animated versions of these characters to help with my design.
I started off by taking two decks of cards and spelling out Wonderland. I decided to leave the Queen of Hearts card face up to signify the important role that she plays in the story.
With the general idea of what I wanted to do with the title being finished I decided to open up illustrator to fill the rest of the cover. After finding a picture of Lewis Carroll and doing a bit of research on him and reviews of the book I filled out the necessary information and wrote my own synopsis of the story.
After Finishing the outline of my book cover I decided to take the picture of the word Wonderland and move it over to photoshop where I cut out each of the letters.
After cutting out and placing the letters I added a background for my cover, using a wormhole like object to symbolize Alice's trip to a different world. Then to add more contrast I added black borders for each section of the cover.
