Flat Tone Colour Litho

the concept:

my past week has been a turmoil of emotion and this is my current expression of what is happening. The two images are the confusion of thoughts in my head.

the stock:  the lovely faestock
I manipulated the images in Photoshop to be black and white without any tone.

the colours:
the background image will be a light, almost pink red, with an additive design (text) of tomato red and burgundy.

the design:
the transfer:
the tone wasn't as consistent as I had planned, so I went over it in autographic ink to darken it.
first printing day - November 8th:
I printed the first colour of the three monochromatic red tones that I chose for this piece. It took 4 hours, resulting in an edition of 8, plus 10 other prints and about 10 proofs. I'm sore, but the design turned out really well, so my muscle aches are worth it!
I love the look of colour on the stone, it's a lot darker than what it looks like on white Somerset paper, but it has a smooth quality that isn't reflected after the printing process.
Here's an image of the drying rack in the middle of the printing process. At this point I still had about an hour and a half of work left before my edition was going to be completed.
I will post the final flat tone print when I get a better quality photo of it! I will be posting more photos as the project continues. The next step is to grain my stone and draw the text that will be printed as an additive on top of the flat colour design. The text is going to be a tomato red, with accents of burgundy.

Thank you for stopping by!
