[Interactive Modular Sculpture]

This project was an exploration of modular construction. My goal was to create an object that would entice the viewer to interact with it and physically explore its form and movement. I designed a single component that could be attached to itself and generate a larger form. This project resulted in three modular sculptures.
In my exploration, I found a particular combination of my component resulted in a flexing joint that would fold in on itself when held by the outermost tabs. I explored this idea and perfected the tolerances so the motion was smooth and the tabs could fold nearly 180 degrees.
After improving my moving modular sculpture, I wanted to see how far I could push the design until I was constrained by the strength of the material. My final exploration culminated in a much larger butterfly shape that could fold and bend when held at the side tabs.
