Elan is designed to help people who suffer from panic attacks.

One person in every 10 has occasional panic attacks. One person in every 100 suffers from a panic disorder. Symptoms include palpitations, sweating, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, de-realisation, fear of going insane, a sense of impending death, numbness and pins and needles. Causes range from major life stress and phobias to genetic predisposition, withdrawal and sometimes serious illness. Fear leads to adrenaline release in preparation for 'fight or flight'. This can cause hyperventilation, and when there is no activity i.e. 'fight or flight' the amount of carbon dioxide in the blood increases. This excess carbon dioxide causes many of the symptoms such as dizziness, numbness and tingling, often increasing the feeling of panic.
Elan helps a person to regulate their breathing using vibrations and pauses of equal length. Using these timings as a guide to indicate how long to breathe in and then breathe out for can reduce the effects of hyperventilation.
Elan is designed as an object of comfort and calm for those that suffer from a sometimes debilitating disorder.
