Brochure Project: Stop Asian Hate

Brochure: Stop Asian Hate
My brochure is on the Stop Asian Hate movement that is currently going on for the AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) community. I want to raise awareness on the violence that is impacting the AAPI community currently as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as provide resources for health and community. My brochure has an upbeat theme, with splashes of bright blue and pink, balanced with serious information and resources. I intended to do this so the brochure is not too off-putting, but still remains a respectful and helpful resource. I chose a tri-fold design because I wanted a brochure with numerous panels to provide history, information, and resources. I also added a QR code so that people can scan it and access a comprehensive list of resources for support and to support the community as an ally, which I felt was very important to include so that anyone has the resources to help if they choose.
Draft 1: Rough Sketches of the Brochure
Decided the topic of my brochure: Stop Asian Hate movement. Sketched rough design of the brochure, balancing information with resources.
Draft 2: Higher Fidelity Digital Version
(Left) Outer side of brochure, including inside content panel, back panel, and front panel. (Right) Inside of brochure, including 3 content panels.
For this draft, I intended to use a more calligraphic title font and a red and gold color scheme. However, I opted to do a more readable font with a blue and pink color scheme to avoid looking too much like a takeout menu. The color choice is also cheerful and welcoming, but not too distracting. I contemplated a blue background because I felt the brochure looked too plain. I also faced difficulties using InDesign, with text wrap spacing around images.
Draft 3: Final Draft
For the final draft, I decided on a colorless background (after a brief switch to pale pink) to match the seriousness of the subject matter. I completed adding information and relevant imagery. I fixed up the margins around the images and edges of the brochure. I generally maintained a left justification for my text for consistency. I also edited the speech bubbles on the back panel to look more aesthetic, after feedback from my professor.
