The Built Environment Knowledge and Awareness Centre

THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS CENTER

The Built Environment Knowledge and Awareness Center, is an innovative center for the support of education in architecture and related fields. The center is a place for informal learning through things such as seminars, talks, and interaction with others. Because architecture continuously changes, the center will give students from different universities the chance to catch up with the new trends in architecture and to advance their skills. Moreover, it will help raise awareness and feed the curiosity of people about architecture and the city. The center will contribute to building skills in the young generation like high school students interested in architecture, who can visit the place to attend orientation sessions and lectures, visit exhibitions, or just engage in discussions with others.Given the currentsituation of COVID-19 and utilizing the latest communication technologies, the center integrates virtual programs, enabling peoplefrom abroad, as well as from inside the country, to participate without the need to travel.
We want to provide a dynamic and flexible environment, foster collaboration, encourage active learning, accelerate innovation, host indoor, outdoor, and virtual programs, activities, workshops, and exhibitions, provide a place to house juries for university students, and explore topics like housing, planning, historic preservation, urban design, smart city development and more. To house these events and fulfill their potential, the project will have five departments: The Education Department, the Public Awareness Department, the Study and Exploration Hall, which acts as a transition between the Education and Public Awareness Departments, the Recreation Department, and the Administration.
The proposed site of the project was selected based on specific criteria, including the area of the site and proximity to educational institutions, to an airport for professionals coming from outside, to a high-profile area to help promote the project nationally and internationally, and to a densely populated area to encourage public engagement. Several site options were studied and compared based on the analyzed criteria. The site chosen was the one that scored the highest, which is in Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, whichis home to various international and local private schools and universities.
