This was the winning design for the T-Shirt contest held by the Audubon Society of RI. The design had to reflect their values and depict a species of bird that could be found in Rhode Island.
The mission of the Audubon Society of Rhode Island is to protect birds, other wildlife and their habitats through conservation, education and advocacy, for the benefit of people and all other life.
I chose the Great Blue Heron, as I believed that a large wading bird would be fitting for Rhode Island and its association with water. I also depicted the bird in its habitat to emphasize another aspect of Audubon's conservation efforts.

Planning Sketches
I alternate between working my ideas out on the computer and working them out on paper. I used tracing paper taped to bristol board to make small variations between designs.
