For this surrealist design brief, our group decided to create a poster for National Geographic. I wasn't aware that it was a non-profit, but it was the perfect choice because we had a lot of flexibility with what we were able to do, resulting in many different outcomes.
I wanted to choose adventure and exploration as themes for my poster. To convey these two ideas, I used images I’ve previously taken with those that I more recently took and attempted to create a “city in the clouds.”
It somewhat looks like a normal city, but the design process was very difficult, and included many bumps in the road. I used the brush tool, adjustment layers, etc.
My original idea was going to be a miniature city on a rock, but I was having trouble using the Photoshop tools and the images I took to create a surrealistic image. It looked too masked, and unrealistic. But overall, I am happy with the outcome. It looks like a real image that does not look too masked.
