Productivity is Significantly Affected by Mold Design

In the design of a mold, the significance of mold design of a tool on productivity is often overlooked. Existing where the mold maker must work with the mold builder, several areas in the mold design in optimize the mold productivity. Saleable parts out of the press per hour are a good standard for mold productivity.

The critical aspects of saleable parts per hour are part quality and cycle time. For increased productivity are the gates as well as runners, sprue bushing, venting, hot manifold, ejection, and cooling. These are significant design areas. For improving optimum cycle, and part quality time, good design for each can contribute while each of these items is specific to the mold being built.
Critical Mold Design Characteristics

The size of the sprue gates, runners, and bushing is the most and first important area in mold design. To ensure that the part can be frozen off, packed out, and filled stress-free to obtain the optimum molded part, this criterion is critical.

The correct size of the gates, runner, and sprue bushing for each material molded can be determined quite accurately with the previous work and use of mold flow analysis of injection mold supplier. Excessive pressure and heat are created by sprue bushings that are too small in the plastic.
The nozzle is another area that relates to the sprue bushing. Often, molds will be changed by molders without ensuring it is matched to the mold they are running and ever looking at the nozzle size. Excessive temperatures and pressures of the material will be caused by this many times.
Too often the mold maker China decides about the sizes of the gates, runners, and sprue. The molder learns that the sizes are not optimal only when running the first samples does. By following the principles of the gate and runner design found in the guides of injection molding as well as other reference materials, much of this can be resolved beforehand. Again, the pressure and the heat of the plastic can be affected by the heat that re too small-sized runners. The cycle for cooling time can be slowed down by too large runners and unnecessary regrind may be caused by this.
