Mission Statement
Diverse Minds wants to create a men's running shoe with an interchangeable sole, because athletic men and women need inexpensive, customizable, durable, on-the-go shoe for their busy lives.

Ideation
Basis
One of the ideas that we had early on in the project was to use an attachment mechanism similar to that which is found on ski boots.
Another idea that we had in the earlier stages was to was a variation of a medal fastner, similar to the many types that are shown in this picture.
Here are some more fastener ideas that we had to attach the sole of the shoe to the top.
We knew that we had to create a simpler fastner than the picture above, so going with our idea of using fasterners as attachments, we found several of these ideas that woudl create a more "hidden" attachment. Out favorites from this list are the "press stud", "velcro" and "buckle".
This is an early idea, that you could print off the design you wanted on to perforated patterns that you could then assemble yuorself. When asking students thoughts on the idea most stated that " we dont' want to have to do work to get shoes."
This idea camfrom a furnature connector called a Cam Lock. It seemed promising until we had to decide on where to twist and how to keep it in place.
Here it is unlocked.
And here it is locked into place.

This is a photo that describes the design of the shoe, as well as just one idea about how the bottom half of the shoe would attach to the top half.
This is an idea of what the interchangeable sole running shoes, side and two different sole designs.
This is a prototype design of another walking shoe, offering a different shoe and sole style.
This illistrates an alternative to the other designs that offeres a clip and a "lego like" interlocking system to hold the shoe and sole together.
THE SEVEN STAGES OF SHOEMAKING:
Cutting out parts of the shoe
Sewing the quarters and the vamp
Shaping the vamp and the quarters on the last
Attaching the first sole
Attaching the second sole
Attaching the heel
Finishing (blackening and waxing)
2 x 2 Matirx

Prototyping

Super fabric is an innovative material that is, according to their website, a highly durable, flame resistant, quick drying, stain resistant, lightweight material. It is made through the combination of basic fabrics, with interwoven small armor plates
This is a still photo from the homepage of SuperFarbic's website. It is the superfabric that we chose as the final for the top of our shoe.
This drawing shows one of the earliest prototypes, showing an attachment system that shows how our design would enable a sole to become universal, because of the flat mid-sole design.
Another design prototype that shows an atachment system which would utilize a spring and clipping mehcanishm.
Here is a prototype where we have begun to finalize our concept. Sun Kit has drawn a shoe that is a combination of our favorite ideas: the "lego" design, and a design that resemebles the strapping mechanism of a strap-on sandal.
Testing
This is a photo that shoes how the shoe would be placed on the foot and what it would look like doing so.
This is a photo that demonstrates the Sole_OH shoe's comfort and "bendability".
