The Avona family of fonts are inspired by fantasy games and calligraphy. Avona Serif is intended for flavourful user interfaces.

Carolingian letterforms from the early ninth century guided the round, calligraphic structure and wide shapes. My aim was to capture the essence of fantasy in a typeface, which resulted in a polished humanist serif that is closely related to hand drawn forms. The large x-height and low contrast help with legibility requirements making it a great choice for longer uses of text and flavourful user interfaces.

When combined with Avona as the display typeface, the two work together to create a visual landscape of something from a time of magic while still meeting the demands of current typesetting.
