Natural Narration
Petros Avgoustinou’s painting explore the vernacular of the Cyprus landscape. He reject postcard views of Cyprus by considering what immediately recognizable as authentic and permanent in the topography. His realist landscape paintings opt for the light, colors, textures and forms, which paradoxically are both familiar and define Cyprus but which yet escape standard visual representations of this place. The landscapes are characterized by mystery through the quietness of subject.
