STUDY ON THE BEDROOM
The theme of the Fundamentals of Design workshop focused on the theme of the bedroom, from the preliminary study of spaces, light and furnishings to its evolution by creating two interior projects.
For all phases and projects I produced relief drawings and realistic 1:20 scale models.
For the first one, I transformed my room into a “Project for itself”, the theme of this project is to create an ideal environment for the cultivation of my solitude, a bright and intimate corner to devote myself to reading Tolkien’s books.
I transformed a window into a shelf niche in which to insert my favourite part of the fantasy books, “The Lord of the Rings”, and I opened another double-hung window 120x150 cm positioned on the north/west side of the room. Thanks to this new window you can enjoy a great light throughout the day, especially in the afternoon-evening, the time I prefer to devote to reading thanks to the soft light and warm sunset. I created an intimate corner in the part of the room with the lowest ceiling as if it were set in a Tolkien book, through the light that filters through the window, a carpet and I colored the part of the wall below the carpet area in a pastel yellow (RAL 1018) that combined with the wood of the parquet floor is very reminiscent of the houses of the hobbits.
For the second, I started from the previous project and evolved it, creating an “altruistic” space to share with a friend. I opened a second plastered door in front of the new window, so that it would be a second entrance for the guest, and I added a small armchair which, when opened, converts into a single futon for the guests. Through a white curtain placed about halfway down the room, I transformed the room into a sort of home theatre, creating a sort of “room within a room”.
The curtain in fact has a dual function: it makes it possible to project films from the “Lord of the Rings” saga through a projector on the ceiling, and at the same time favours the privacy of the guest during the night. In addition, I chose to include the ‘Yellow Flags’ artwork.
This work, thanks to its yellow colour on a dark background and its natural subject matter, visually recalls the corner for cultivating solitude and Tolkien’s natural fantasy setting.
For all phases and projects I produced relief drawings and realistic 1:20 scale models.
