Other stuff
From the fertile mind of Tom Prager
Until I have time to explain and expound upon in detail, here's a mass upload of random stuff from my portfolio to look through. Keep coming back, as there's even more to post.

Just one quick explanation though… The first six pieces after the "Evolution" logo below were postcards from a direct mail campaign I created, which was to promote, by way of direct example, Vertis' ability to digitally print unique, personalized pieces on-the-fly. The copy <between the brackets> would be personalized with the addressee's name, company, title, gender, etc. from a database of mailing list information. For instance, imagine receiving a postcard proclaiming YOUR NAME and YOUR COMPANY as one of Fortune Magazine's Masters of Marketing. Or, one with a die-cut corrugated coffee cup sleeve proclaiming this as YOUR NAME'S COFFEE.

This direct mail campaign was an unmitigated success because, unlike most junk mail, they inevitably wound up not being directly tossed in the trash, but proudly saved and cherished by the recipients. Did you get yours?
The ancient past

Just ran across this great little Youtube video made by McDonalds Canada (not by me), that brought on a wave of nostalgia, being very similar to lots of work I've done since the early 80s. If you'll allow me to reminisce…

I got my first Art Director job in 1980 at Neilsen/Anklam in Studio City, CA. One of our clients was Denny's Restaurants. We created all the stuff you'd see inside the store: menus, table tents, posters, etc. At first, I did mostly marker comps, my specialty in those days, for the table tent promotions for their specials. Barry Anklam, the Creative Director, got to do all the fun stuff like the photo shoots, but based on my design comps.

I also designed and produced Denny's Digest, a quarterly magazine for Denny's employees. One time, I suggested that we do an article on the magic that happens in the photo studio, that results in the mouth-watering photography on Denny's menus and promotions. So I got to go with Barry to a photo shoot, and shoot the shoot for the article -- pretty similar, in fact, to this video.

That was the first time I'd ever set foot in a real photo studio. I got to go back many times after that, to assist my mentor, Barry, and eventually direct my own shoots.

Thus began my career, doing stuff very similar to what you see in this video. Pretty nostalgic for me, 32 years later.

One time, I designed a table tent for an omelet with one of those wire baskets in the background filled with eggs. The lawyers wouldn't allow it, saying that customers would expect three dozen raw eggs with their order. We did it anyway.

My biggest home run was suggesting we put this picture we shot of a hot fudge brownie on a 3" button for the waitresses to wear. Resulted in zillion$ in sales -- allowed the customers to stare at the waitresses' anatomy. I've used that trick many times since, for everything from electronics equipment to real estate developments. They call me a marketing genius every time.

• This stuff is all in deep storage down in the garage. One o' these days I might shoot it and stick it in here, just for the record.
