Trompe l'oeil, 2019

This is my trompe-l'oeil piece from painting class in the fall of 2019. We worked in oil paint to capture still-life pieces hung around the classroom, using techniques with glazing and impasto. The full painting is composed slightly zoomed-out, as I wanted to show the wall and cast shadows behind the panel setup.
The variety of elements in this still-life taught me a lot about value perception. Painting the cast of a hand was an especially important lesson in painting white objects, and how little "true white" actually exists on the canvas.
