Lord of the Flies Book Cover Project
Project Brief
This project is to practice using symbols and design principles to portray the theme of a book through a book cover. There are three types of covers that we created: typography, physical element, and designer’s choice.
Process
Here are some visual assets that I collected near the beginning of the project. These served as some great inspiration for me throughout the design process. I ended up using the pig with the basket, the fly, the flames, and the two pictures I took of the eye and the glasses.
I did some basic brainstorming with wordplay and then followed up with sketches. This was the start to any ideas I had. It is interesting to see how I started, versus what I ended up with.
Here are some rough drafts and designs that didn't make it to the final cut. I downloaded some new fonts, brushes, and images that would work for my designs. One of my favorite versions of the typography designs was the one here with the flies spelling it out. I just couldn't get it to work where I felt it looked professional enough so I went with another design.
