Book-building is fun!

During my design class at RISD we have been creating some booklets in accordion format. The final project was a booklet about a designer. My designer was Alexey Brodovitch. The booklet tells about some of his biggest or most interesting projects. Alexey was a very prolific designer, so to fit his life into such a small thing was not an easy task. The idea of the booklet was for it to have been influenced by the designer's style and to be targeted to teenagers and up, to spark the interest and promote further research.

This booklet was designed in PowerPoint, as I haven't had any idea on how to use InDesign then. I printed it at Staples, glued and stitched it together - and voila!
Here is the video I have made to show how this booklet is functioning.
Shortly after the class has ended there was a position of visual storyteller (or similar) open at IDEO company and I have created a new book, which was my resume/portfolio. Unfortunately, when I have traveled to IDEO office - they haven't let me in (it was pre-Covid). I have called them to tell them that I am at their door and could I please drop my resume? They told me rather coldly that I should apply online, and although I told them my resume was in unusual format, they didn't want to listen. At this point I was kind of disappointed in their approach - you would think that a design company would be a bit more open to unusual submissions. And - to tell you the truth - I was also relieved that I don't need to part with my book-baby :DD Here is the video of the book - you can see that my Brodovitch booklet is a part of it. I am not adding the high-res pictures, as it's my real portfolio, and it's not to be seen by the whole world :))
I love to explore simple fold-outs and movable pieces in my sketchbook, such as tiny bits below - it's fun!
