As part of my 4 month exchange program to Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Detmold, Germany; we had a week long excursion to Baden-Baden in the Black Forest region of Germany, for the course Wood Sculpture.
The objective was to sculpt a seating with the use of only hand tools in the the time period of 3 days.
It was my first time working on such a large piece of wood.
Birch wood has been used. Tools used were simple chisels, hand-axe and mallet.
The sculpture is a spiral form with a hole through the central core.
The curve has been painted black to enhance the form. The hole can be used to store books/magazines.
The scultpure is ideal for outdoor usage in gardens.
