Lampianu es el  primer corte promocional del disco Viaje Oscuro de Patricio Alvarado, cuyo videoclip dirigí y animé entre diciembre de 2019 y agosto de 2020. Está realizado en la técnica de rotoscopía (trazado sobre footage), aunque también podemos ver elementos de animación tradicional y maquetado 3D. 

Lampianu is the first music video for the album Viaje Oscuro by Patricio Alvarado, which I directed and animated between December 2019 and August 2020. It's made mainly in the rotoscoping technique (tracing over footage), although we can also see some traditional cell animation elements and 3D.

Para la rotoscopía elegí trabajar con líneas vectoriales y una paleta reducida de colores plenos. Los fondos fueron trabajados en capas, y a la composición final se le agregó textura de papel y grano de película para contrarrestar el acabado "pulido" del vector.

For the rotoscoping I chose to work with vectorial line art and a reduced palette of full colors. The backgrounds were constructed in layers, and the final composition was treated with paper texture and film grain to compensate for the "polished" vectorial finishing. 

Los planos del naufragio fueron filmados en Bali, Indonesia. Los paisajes de Valparaíso están inspirados en fotografías del lugar que tomé durante un viaje en el 2018, y el resto de las escenas que Patricio comparte con su co-protagonista se filmaron en el Departamento de Animación de la Universidad del Cine en Buenos Aires, Argentina. 

The cast-away shots were filmed in Bali, Indonesia. The Valparaíso landscapes are inspired in photographies I took on a trip in 2018 and the rest of the scenes that Patricio shares with his co-star were shot in the Animation Department of the Universidad del Cine, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 

El videoclip fue realizado gracias al Fondo de Fomento de las Artes de Chile (2018), y desde su lanzamiento en 2020 ha sido seleccionado en múltiples festivales. En diciembre recibió su primer mención especial a Mejor Animación en el In-Edit Chile. 

The music video was a possibility thanks to a Chilean Arts Fund (2018) and since its release in 2020 it's been selected in multiple festivals. In December 2002 it got its first special mention in the In-Edit Chile (Best Animation). 

Más de 20 personas trabajaron para hacer realidad este proyecto. En mi caso particular, además de la dirección también co-escribí el guion junto al músico Patricio Alvarado, realicé una gran cantidad de planos en rotoscopía y todas las animaciones cuadro a cuadro. También realicé la composición y el render final. 

Se trató de un proyecto de cierta ambición realizado con espíritu artesanal.

More than 20 people worked to make this project a reality. In my particular case, besides directing I also co-wrote the screenplay alongside the musician Patricio Alvarado,  and I animated a substancial portion of the rotoscoping shots and all of the traditionally animated ones. I was also in charge of the composition and final rendering. 

It was a fairly ambitious project crafted with artisan spirit.
