Character Vector Illustrations

Vector style character illustrations designed by me using Adobe Illustrator using only a mouse, These were either design commission I took on from players of World of Warcraft or designs I did for fun.
I found these illustrations really fun to make even though some could take up to 10 hours+ to complete depending on the complexity and details.
Being able to create people's characters that they have invested thousands of hours into was a great honour, I met a lot of great people during my 4 months straight binge of playing only World of Warcraft for the first time and joining a great guild known as the Azeroth Tax Company where we would socialize, raid and do stuff together in game on a regular basis.
Being able to create people's characters that they have invested thousands of hours into was a great honour, I met a lot of great people during my 4 months straight binge of playing only World of Warcraft for the first time and joining a great guild known as the Azeroth Tax Company where we would socialize, raid and do stuff together in game on a regular basis.
The process for creating these designs would consist of the following:
. Receive a high quality screenshot of the player's character in a well lit area.
. Receive a high quality screenshot of the player's character in a well lit area.
. Create a large Adobe Illustrator file typically around 1920 x 1080 pixels (for use on desktop wallpapers).
. Import the image and line up the characters head and shoulders to the centre of the canvas.
. Duplicate the image off to the side so I could use it for colour picking.
. Change the opacity of the main image to about 20% enough to still see the details but faded enough to see my Pen tool lines.
. Start tracing the details of the image choosing 1 side either Left or Right, do this up to the centre point of the canvas. (Colour picking from the duplicated image for correct colours).
. After completing one side of the design with the many layers of detail I would then duplicate all of that and flip it vertically so the two halves were side by side and come together as one symmetrical piece. (There would be several times where I would have to fully zoom in and correct anchor points so the symmetry was correct).
. I would now have a fully symmetrical design, all that was left was the colour background, I chose most of my colours by colour picking from a colour wheel and going for complimentary colours to the main colour that was prominent on the design itself.
