Applique and Patchwork are two different methods of sewing the pieces of cloth.

The art of making applique work refers to a kind of technique through which the patterns are formed by attaching the tiny pieces of designer fabrics onto a larger textile that is generally of contrasting color. 

The art of sewing the patches of geometrical shaped fabric together to form a textile pattern is called patchwork.
