10.25 DOKDO DAY
BACKGROUND
Dokdo is a small island in the east coast of South Korea next to the larger Ulleungdo Island. It is made up of two islets, Seodo (West) and Dongdo (East).

The islands are also known as the Liancourt Rocks and as Takeshima by the Japanese, who believes this island belongs to Japan.

PROBLEM
Started in 2020, every social studies textbook at Japanese elementary schools claimed that Dokdo, known as Takeshima in Japan, was “an integral territory of Japan” that was being “illegally occupied by South Korea."

Furthermore, the representative news channel of United States, CNN and the United Kingdom, BBC have reported the news about the map of the island by adding the name, ‘Takeshima’ beside the name ‘Dokdo'.

As time flies, distorted truths are increasing and the name of the ‘Dokdo’ is slowly disappearing.

SOLUTION
As Dokdo is getting far away from South Koreans, it is important that they have to remember and hold on tightly in their mind that it won’t disappear from them.

Therefore, I came up with a solution that can help people to easily remember the Dokdo and Dokdo Day during their daily life. I feel that Dokdo and the people are disconnected due to people’s poor attention. So I want them to be connected to each other in order not to break up again.

In celebration of Dokdo Day, Oct. 25, the Seoul Metro will be collaborating with Dokdo Foundation to hold a campaign to raise the awareness of the Dokdo Island. Moreover, they are hoping to implant Dokdo’s name in the mind of the civilians by introducing items that feature Dokdo’s traits or design that can be used in their daily life.

10.25 DOKDO DAY Kit contains:
- 3 series of Metro Cards
- Member card of Dokdo Foundation
- Postcard
- Phone Case
LOGO
10.25 DOKDO DAY logo is constructed with the abstract shape of the Dokdo Island which has the curvy strokes overlapping together.

The left represents Seodo Island and the right represents Dongdo Island. Using rounded strokes look more friendly to the audience while the real Dokdo Island is rocky which seems unfriendly to the people.

Moreover, the colour of the red and blue are inspired by the flag of the Republic of Korea. Using a representative colour of South Korea will let the audience recognize the logo easier and faster.
