This is a cover for a short story called 'Where the Water Meets the Sand' by Mollie Rodgers. The cover demonstrates the design principle of hierarchy. Overshadowing the image through color, emphasis, and alignment, the title is meant to be the dominating graphic element.
This graphic demonstrates the design principle of space. Negative space, along with the complimentary shapes of moon phases aid in visual hierarchy to lead the eye down the page.
This image demonstrates the use of letter-forms as well as positive and negative space. I carefully considered spacing while choosing the individual fonts of each letter and their placements. The colored rectangles emphasize the letters and create interest with unique shapes against the contrast of the figures.
