Paper lamp inspired by pinecone
I developed and constructed a light sculpture, an object that suggests lightness as opposed to weight. To begin the project, I selected a natural element from the nature: pinecone. I observed its skin and structure and translated the elements into a paper construct/sculpture in a scale that is larger than my hand but smaller than my arm. I carefully thought about the color, texture, connections, and how the light would pass through the construct. I created the structure piece that will support the paper ‘shade.’ I layered the drawing papers folded into the simplified form of pinecone to express the texture. As I intended the light was passing through the layered papers and created different levels of light. Drawing papers’ color created warm light that expressed the warm feeling of the pinecone itself. It is intended to be used as wall light fixture. It is fairly dim to be used as a night lamp.
