These monoprints come out of my meditative process, attempting to depict sounds that I hear internally. This desire comes from my training as a visual artist and vocalist--and as someone who is sometimes hyper-aware of sensations. The marks in these prints all start from a beat, lyric, or name that I hear repeatedly, and I subsequently let abstract evocations flow out of my brush. The results, possibly, evoke how alphabets or systems were first developed to capture spoken language.
These "Rhythm Prints" are from my time in the Teaching Artist Residency at Marwen Foundation (May 2019).
