Ranjit Menon's profile

Digital Fabrication

I have been an active member, intern and very recently Fab Academy student as part of the global  FabLab digital fabrication ecosystem, since its inception in Aalto MediaLab. I have also collaborated with maker spaces such as the FolkLab in Stockholm.

Our design - the Konch - is a comfortable seat with an integrated audio system, using entirely Razzberry Pi based Open Source hardware and DIY audio circuits, which are available as Open Source downloadable files from the Furnish website.

In 2020, we were one of the 7 teams selected from across EU in an open call for rapidly deployable public infrastructure for Covid Response with team not-19. Recently, the digital version of FURNISH: New Methodologies to Intervene in Public Space was released and can be at UPC public repository UPCommons: http://hdl.handle.net/2117/387721

I was 100% responsible for the build and testing of experimental audio,  amplifier circuits, DIY microphones and audio ecosystem blueprint - and also aided in the digital fabrication processes.

We successfully developed, fabricated, installed and tested prototype urban elements, which combine tactical urbanism with local digital manufacturing to make public spaces safer, more comfortable, and more engaging for use during COVID-19.

Folk Lab is a Swedish platform for social mobilization through digital fabrication and is working very closely with public libraries. They are lobbying for reinventing the library to focus more on giving access to digital fabrication tools - Supported by DELMOS, I was hired to help facilitate the pilot launch of folklab folkshuset. The mobile “STEAM” maker bus “ the meaning machine” was used for fabrication.
