Mahjong is somewhat reminiscent of italian card game "scala 40", where you draw, combine suits in sets and pairs and discard when you are done. The first player to combine their 14 tiles declares mahjong, winning the hand. However, there are special hands worth a lot of points and they have cool/poetic names. Take this, for example, "The thirteen unique wonders". It is achieved by gathering in your hand all 4 winds, all 3 dragons, 1's and 9's for all suits with one duplicate tile.
