Can urban design be a mirror of culture?
My research is based on the assumption that urban design is a mirror of the culture and reflects the layers of history.
Shelter is a fundamental requirement of human survival and is therefore common to all societies. The form that such habitation takes however varies from culture to culture. This variance in form reflects different social structures and cultural practices . From this article, I think it is proper to express that urban design is a mirror of culture, that is why ocussing on urban design to show cultural differences is useful an approach.
The countries in which my research is based, the UK and Japan, have long histories. Urban design is therefore a useful focus since design from different eras can be compared to show cultural differences.
