Mudroom
Conversion from 50s ranch pantry in Detroit, MI
I was asked to renovate convert a small stairway pantry into a mudroom by some good friends of mine.  A very tight space to work in.  So tight that I couldn't photograph everything at once.  I'll do my best to explain what is going on.
The door to the pantry.  In the background is the side door.  Behind this door was where pantry items were stored.
Door open.  I closed off the opening with sanded and spar varnished backing.  I finished these to match the existing door.  This is now an area for brooms etc.  Above is a new shelf for storage from stairwell
Opening on other side of door (see photograph above).  This was formerly enclosed with a plaster wall.  I opened the wall and framed it out with new trim to match other existing trim such at the side door (pictured on the right).  I fabricated the other trim in the mudroom such as the supports for the wire shelf and backing for nickel hooks below that..
Lower portion of mudroom opening.  Bench was fabricated for space.  Underneath is space for boots, shoes etc.  I framed out right side under bench, installed new tile and transition.  The bench was also made to match existing finish of trim on existing door.
Wire shelf detail.  Rabbeted shelf supports with routed notch to prevent forward movement of shelf.
