Artist Residency : Art Retreat

This is final project of level 2 term 2 , of my B.Arch programme at BUET.

The project was to design a artist residency for 50 artist. The site is in riverbanks of Dhaleshwari river , Savar.

The required spaces were -

1.Multipurpose Hall/Audio-visual lecture hall for 75 persons.
6. 2 minibus (28 seats/minibus) and 5 car parking facilities
7. Workshops (Multiple workshop depending upon the media of work)
8. Gallery Space (Indoor and Outdoor)
9. Reception Lobby
10. Social Lounge / Living Hall
11. Library
12. Dining Hall
13. Self Service Kitchen
14. Service Facilities

The given site is located beside the river Dhaleshwari. As rivers tend to dislocate through time , I tried to give maximum setback from the river as possible. The whole form of the residency is parallel to the river ensuring proper view and experience of it.
There is also a 200 years old Banyan tree , I encircled the mighty tree with the public functions , and creating a huge public courtyard that can be used for all sort of public outdoor activities , social and cultural gatherings.
The Workshops have surrounding outdoor view and access. It’s divided into two parts for different media or group work.

The requirement was 20 twin share room for artists , 10 single room for artists
2 single rooms for mentors , One twin share room for support staff.

I designed a cluster that contains 8 twin share rooms and 4 single rooms. Total 3 cluster are connected through a corridor in the ground floor to the other functions.
