The second-largest city in Morocco has an allure and mystique about it unlike anywhere else in the world. Fez is an amalgamation. It is all too easy to become hopelessly lost in the unending maze of narrow streets and bustling suqs. Here, you can find just about anything from hashish to camel heads to the most delicious date fruits imaginable. The textures, patterns, smells, and sounds radiate with antiquity, transporting you centuries back to a time when the Arab world was the cultural mecca. Indeed, one of Fez's nicknames is the "Mecca of the West" while another is the "Athens of Africa."
