Matsya | Dashavatar

Personal illustration project on  DASHAVATARS (Hindu mythological Gods).

Matsya, one of the 10 avatars (incarnations) of the Hindu god Vishnu, wherein the Lord appeared in the form of a fish to free the Vedas (Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharva Veda) from the clutches of the Danavas and kill a demon-named Hayagrivasaved and saved the world from a great flood by taking shelter under Manu, the first man on earth. In some representations, Matsya is shown with four hands like Vishnu, one holding the chakra, another the shankha, while the front two hands hold a sword and a book signifying the Vedas he recovered from the demon. Over his elbows is an angavastra draped, while a dhoti like draping covers his hips.
Thank You.
