Bus Station Blues
Create a record album cover in the style of Reid Miles
In order to create a proper solution to this project, I researched and studied the work of Reid Miles and his employer, Blue Note Records. After a complete analysis of his work, I determined that the audience for this album would be people who enjoy blues and jazz. Since most of Reid Miles’ work focused on blues and jazz, I named the album “Bus Station Blues.”
Reid Miles used dramatic imagery for his album covers, so I began my album design with the background photography. For the cover imagery, I took my camera and a model to an old abandoned bus stop and shot images for the front and back cover. I used one color plus white for the cover so that it would convey the “blues” feel even more. White was used very sparingly and mainly as the text for the album. To finish the cover design, I placed the text large and bold over the images to reinforce the drama that was signature of Reid Miles in his album designs.
