For my typography class this semester I was tasked with creating a typeface which represents an archetype, with the project cleverly called "ArcheTYPE." My archetype turned out to be The Magician.
I've always been a fan of fantasy and magic, so the randomly chosen archetype worked well for something I enjoy. I decided to work on a script typeface for the project.
One theme that turned out to flow well through the whole design was both the contrast and harmony of using plenty of straight lines and flowing curves. Overall, I believe the design worked very well and gave off the vibes I intended.
Ultimately, this project only called for a design of a few letters, but I still enjoyed it. This simple mockup makes me think of a magician's insignia stamped onto an old book, so I chose it to show how it might be used in real life. Perhaps one day I will revisit The Magician and create an entire typeface.
