Looping Animation

This is the final product of a few short weeks of animation. The goal was to create an animation that looped, and would look well visually at any frame if it were to be stopped. In the beginning I wanted to create more of a story for my snail used here. I had a full storyboard created that involved lots of 2D files used in a 3D space. It was a very ambitious idea however I felt that I wouldn't be able to create as good an animation if I were to create a shorter animation that was designed to loop.
Assets
Here are a few of the assets that I used. I created all if the assets in Adobe Illustrator and added them into After Effects as individual compositions with retaining layer sizes. The loop itself was split down the middle and separated in the 3d workspace to help the snail move from the backside to the frontside of the loop and the composition. The background and loop were both inspired by the Sonic level titled "Greenzone."
Obviously there are some more assets including some dust clouds that appear throughout the animation but those were simple shapes and vector graphics.
After Effects Animation
I animated the assets in Adobe After Effects. I precomposed multiple assets so that the animation could be animated on it's own then added in the final composition. I used the puppet pin tool to help the snail bend and contour to the shape of the loop. The Dirt Worker robot had his rocket precomposed using the "loopout()" and "wiggle()" expressions to help it move similarly to fire.
Overall it was a really fun project and I plan on refining it even more as I progress and learn more about the system and increase my skills in design and animation!
