Beauceron (French Beauceron) - one of the varieties of French shepherd dogs.

The French Shepherd Dog "Beauceron" is a unique breed of dog, it is interesting that its formation took place independently, without any human participation. Familiar with the Beauceron, they are perplexed how such powerful and at the same time elegant dogs with a memorable appearance and bright character did not win world fame.

The Beauceron is a long-standing herding breed that has been widespread in northern France for centuries. The first mention of these dogs dates back to the 16th century. In fact, they were common not only in the area of "de Bos", although the development of the breed is associated with it.
Nobody knows the exact origin of the Beauceron, but there are 2 versions of their appearance. Version 1 tells us that they originated naturally from wild wolves. In the process of evolution and domestication, the wild wolf became closer to humans, and then interbred freely, and sometimes deliberately, with other breeds that entered the region along with merchants. The second version says that these are, possibly, the descendants of an ancient peat dog, which has now become extinct. Be that as it may, the ancestors of the modern Beauceron existed on the territory of France for a long time, and subsequently, as it was believed and is still considered by many to this day, not only the Beauceron, but also the long-haired Briard Sheepdog came from them.
Throughout history, the Beauceron have served as grazing cattle with remarkable endurance, intelligence, and the ability to manage large herds. At first glance, the Beauceron resembles a slightly smaller copy of a Doberman, or a mestizo Doberman and Rottweiler. However, this shepherd dog is not related to either one or the other, it is lighter and taller than the Rottweiler, and more massive than the Doberman. Thoroughbred Beauceron has two colors: black and tan and harlequin. The harlequin has the same red tan, but gray hairs are located on a black background. In America, this color is called blue merle. In both colors, a small white patch on the chest is allowed. Mr Beauceron In 1863, the first dog show, organized by the Paris Societe Imperiale d`Acclimatation, was held, where the Beauceron was officially presented for the first time. But only in 1896, under the influence of Pierre Megnin, an authoritative commission was organized, which adopted the first official standards for two French shepherd breeds: the long-haired Berger de Brie, and the smooth-haired Berger de Beauce. Moreover, the name of the breeds is not associated with the name of the provinces, but only for the difference in the name of the dogs. In 1897, the first Club francais du chien de Berger was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture. In 1911, a separate Club Les Amis du Beauceron was formed, which to this day strictly monitors the observance of breed standards in France. Beauceron has a rather tough character, is very self-confident and is prone to maximum independence, dominance in any situation, which, along with his high intelligence and fearlessness, can create serious problems for an unprepared owner.
