A large format lazer cut book based on the picture book About 2 Squares by El Lissitzky. About 2 Squares is a story about two squares and how they ‘transform’ the world. It is Lissitzy’s expression of the forth dimension and it’s effect on the three dimensional world.

In 1922 when it was published it presented a radical rethinking of what a book was and how it could be interpreted. Lissitzky demonstrated new ways of using typography and how it relates to visual images.

Using About Two Squares as a point of departure Two Squares aims to explore the page in a 3 dimensional way. Rather than drawing with ink, the incision becomes a new way of drawing, and revealing what is behind.

It aims to re-think the idea of a book in the 21st century and calls into question notions of technology and the role the screen plays in todays ultimately four dimensional world.
