Assignment:

1. Design the letters of your first name so that you carefully consider both the positive shapes and negative spaces. You can crop or reverse letters if you like.

2. Draw a box around your name forcing the letters to touch all edges of the rectangular box.

3. Directly under that box, design the letters of your middle name or last name. Again draw a box around that name so that the letters touch all edges of the rectangular box.

4. Review how the letters, which are the figures, relate to the leftover space, which is the ground or negative space. Notice if the letters need to be kerned so that all the negatives shapes are interesting.
