the idea of monolithic is using one material in compression to create architecture. These two models demonstrate two different outcome from what architecture techniques can be used for mono-materials, using formwork that has organic shape such as palm provides the flexibility for changing the shape of the architecture and adapting to the site condition, on the other hand, subtractive and additive method focuses on the corner, the lighting and how to build  a building with heavy looking but still provokes mood. An example for architecture that consider the hectic experience within monolithic building is Serpentine Pavilion  by Peter Zumthor and his subtractive technique which creates a space that he indicates as to " squeeze nature " into an architecture space.
The building is built on a slope so that by using optical illusion, the vanishing point looks like it lies on horizon and this visual perception make the building look endless and that it elongates beyond the horizon. This also make the building appear wider and embody the nature.
This moment is chosen because it shows the use of mix materials within a building and how it enhances the monolithic nature of this building, it highlights how materials can be manipulated by the architecture to change its conventional use. Glass window is usually used to add transparency in architecture, however, by incorporating wooden material, that bounds glass window, on facade, it adds rough texture to the surface and corresponds to the heavy-looking, dull appearance of concreate. When the materials are separated, they have different nature, but in the design of Salk Institute, it creates harmony and union. The use of concreate for the entire site creates a continuity

The inspiration for this change comes from curtain wall and frameless window that have been studied focusing on edge and threshold, the purpose of this renovation is to connect the inside and outside of the space by allowing transparency while maintaining the structure by using light-weight steel frame.
Inspiration: Crown Hall by Mies Van Der Rohe, Glass House by Philip Johnson, Falling Water by Frank Loyld Wright
Utility: making models gives the ability to visualize the use of space and how the space can be used to represents the personalities of people within the space. Furthermore, the space's purpose can be changed just by changing its scale.
